Metaplanet Buys 1,004 More Bitcoin, Now Holds 7,800 BTC

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has added 1,004 more Bitcoin to its treasury, spending around $104.3 million in its latest purchase, days after buying 1,241 BTC. The average price paid per Bitcoin was $103,873, as the company continues its aggressive Bitcoin buying strategy.

This brings Metaplanet’s total holdings to 7,800 BTC, now worth about $806 million at current market prices, having spent about $712.5 million in total so far, with an average cost of $91,343 per Bitcoin.

The company started buying Bitcoin In April 2024, with the aim of holding 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025. With this new purchase, the company has reached 78% of that goal, adding over 6,000 BTC this year alone which is a 4.4x increase since the start of 2025. This bold strategy appears to be paying off, as the company’s stock jumped 9.63% on Monday to 683 usd, extending its monthly gains to more than 93.48%

The price surge followed the announcement of the Bitcoin purchase and record Q1 revenue of 877 million yen (about $6 million).

To fund these purchases, Metaplanet has been using a mix of bond sales and a flexible warrant program that allows it to raise funds without a fixed strike price. The company has now completed 15 bond issuances as part of this plan.

Often compared to U.S.-based MicroStrategy, Metaplanet is growing even faster. According to Blockstream CEO Adam Back, Metaplt is moving 3.8 times faster than MicroStrategy when it comes to Bitcoin earnings relative to net asset value. This has made the company increasingly popular among investors.

With 7,800 BTC, Metaplanet is now the largest public Bitcoin holder in Asia and ranks 11th in the world, ahead of El Salvador. The company’s BTC Yield, a measure of Bitcoin growth, has reached 189.1% in 2025, showing the strength of its Bitcoin strategy.
