During the Token2049 event, women in Web3 shared their vision of making crypto more inclusive at the Blockchain Baddies event, beginning with clear explanations, more educational material, and stronger, more supportive communities.
The crypto industry is often seen as complex and intimidating, filled with technical jargon and high-profile scams. However, according to the panelists, the key to bringing more women into the space is breaking down barriers, starting with simpler language and friendlier learning environments.
Women Learn From Other Women
Caroline York, Marketing Director at Web3 firm Serotonin, emphasized the need for clear, digestible information. “To attract more women, we’ve got to make crypto concepts much easier to grasp,” she said.
She also noted that women often feel more comfortable learning in trusted, community-driven settings like SheFi, an educational initiative for women in decentralized finance (DeFi).
Saima Tariq Khan, an engineer and crypto educator, agreed. “First, we need to answer basic questions like What is DeFi? What is blockchain?” Once that foundation is set, more women will feel confident entering the space.”
Meanwhile, Paloma Soria Brown, an author and SheFi scholar, stressed that financial literacy should be a starting point. As she noted, “People don’t necessarily know what Web3 means. When you know about crypto but you’re not an investor, you might only see the scams and rug pulls.”
If more people understood Web3’s core ideas, freedom, ownership, and community, they’d see its potential.
Crypto Companies Have a Role to Play
Additionally, Abigail Xavier, Marketing Manager at Fasset, a Web3 financial platform, said companies have a role to play in all this. Pointing out that Her team is working with women-inclusive communities to refine their platform’s usability.
“We’re partnering with a lot of women-inclusive communities to understand their experience and incorporate that feedback into our UI and UX,” Xavier said. “We want to make our platform and tools more intuitive for our female audience,” she said.
Meanwhile, Khan pointed out another advantage, that Web3’s remote-friendly nature can help bridge the gender gap in tech. Many women graduate with computer science degrees but leave the workforce, crypto could offer them a new path.
