Moca Network, a project under Animoca Brands, is developing a digital identity system that aims to solve the issues of fragmentation of user identities across Web 3. The project seeks to give users control over their data while also facilitating seamless interoperability between different platforms.
The Challenge of Web3 Identity Fragmentation
Digital identity in Web3 is still highly fragmented with user data scattered across multiple blockchain networks. This lack of standardization in the identity system limits the experience of users as well as the inefficiencies generated by businesses when working with the system.
Unlike in Web2, where companies such as Google and Meta collect user information that is then used for targeted ads, in Web3, the decentralization of the system makes it difficult to track and verify users.
The issue also has an impact on airdrops, a more popular method for rewarding active Web 3 participants. Without a unified identity system, projects struggle to differentiate genuine users from inactive or duplicate accounts.
The Starknet airdrop, for instance, targeted 1.3 million wallets but faced difficulties verifying real contributors, leading to a significant drop in network activity after distribution.
Moca Network’s AIR Kit: A Unified Solution
To address the challenges, Moca Network is developing the AIR Kit (Account, Identity, Reputation) as an open and user-conscious identity system. The framework aims to unify wallet creation, identity verification and reputation tracking across different applications and blockchains.
“We are building an infrastructure that hasn’t been seen in the space,” said Shek, Moca Network’s project lead. “Instead of treating users as new every time they switch platforms, AIR Kit will allow them to carry their digital identity and reputation across the ecosystem”.
The system will integrate zero-knowledge proofs and tamper-proof technology to guarantee both security and privacy. Furthermore, cross-chain messaging protocols will allow for seamless identity transfers between different blockchain-based networks.
Future plans and Web3 integration
At a later stage of development, Moca Network plans to integrate on-chain Web2 data; this move will bridge the traditional and decentralized platforms together providing a link between targeted advertising, user verification and reward distribution all within a single network.
Along with this action businesses will be able to refine targeted advertising, user verification and reward distribution, leaving the user on Web3 able to keep control of their data.
As Web3 adoption grows AIR Kit could become a major solution for addressing identity fragmentation, improving security, and enhancing the overall user experience in the decentralized internet.
